The Bespoke Writing Workshops for Groups UK strand of the Big Thinking School of Writing is designed for groups
who want something shaped specifically around their needs. Instead of fitting your writers into a pre-set
course, we build a session (or mini-series) around your aims, participants, and practical constraints.
Workshops can focus on creative writing, publishing, or a mixture of both. They can be a one-off event,
a short run of sessions, or part of a larger programme you’re already running. Pricing is on request, based
on length, preparation and any travel needed.
Possible workshop themes
- Introductions to creative writing or poetry for new writers.
- Focused sessions on story structure, character, or voice.
- Editing clinics and revising your own work.
- Publishing 101 – understanding routes into print.
- Query letters & synopses for agents and presses.
- Confidence, blocks and building sustainable writing habits.
Flexible formats
- Short 60–90 minute taster workshops.
- Half-day or full-day intensives.
- Multi-week mini-courses for a closed group.
- Online delivery via video call, or in-person where feasible.
- Standalone sessions or linked series that build over time.
If you’re not sure exactly what you want yet, that’s fine – you can tell us a little about your group and
we’ll suggest a small number of workshop options to choose from.
Writing groups & book clubs
Ideal if your group would like a themed craft session, a publishing Q&A, or a small series of
workshops linked to a specific genre, anthology, or shared project.
Universities & HE providers
We can complement existing Creative Writing, English, Journalism or Humanities provision with sessions
on practical publishing skills, confidence, or routes into print.
Libraries & community organisations
Workshops can form part of a festival, community project, or outreach programme – from gentle taster
sessions to short projects that culminate in a small publication.
Schools & youth groups
For older school-age writers and youth groups, we can offer age-appropriate introductions to creative
writing, mini-anthology projects, or inspiration sessions around reading and writing.
